All couples experience conflict and difficulties at times. Most couples develop the skills necessary to discuss and resolve differences before they reach an out of control level. As a therapist with advanced training in marital therapy, Nic sees the couple together as well as individually. Nic helps the couple define their marital stressors.
The couple is also challenged to understand their inter-actional dynamic, individual issues and emotional struggles that may be contributing to the unhealthiness of the marital relationship. Counseling goals in marital therapy are generally to help the couple: improve communication skills, develop emphatic listening skills, improve problem-solving skills, resolve conflict, heal following infidelity, understand the components of a healthy relationship, and come to experience a mutually satisfying emotional and sexual relationship within the marriage.
